We LOVE a good furniture upgrade hack.

There are so many great DIY upgrades out there. Really custom trim pieces, beautifully executed facelifts, funky cool design, etc.

This project is not that. Haha! This is an easy DIY to make a standard Walmart bookcase look a little better and significantly improve function in our home.

We took 2×2 pine wood and cut 4 pieces for each shelf unit. The lengths were 6 inches, the height we wanted to increase the shelves.

To attach the legs to the bottom of the shelf, we first needed to make a rectangle frame. More 2×2 pieces were cut to fit the perimeter of the underside of the bookcase. The legs fit into the corners.

We screwed all the pieces together and gave the exposed edges of the legs a little sanding. Put the shelves back in their place (no pretty styling!) and enjoyed the taller shelving. Open to floor vents, easier to vacuum under…such a simple update!
